Project Read is part of the Adult Education Program at Lewis and Clark Community College. This program trains volunteer tutors to conduct free, one-on-one tutoring. These tutors assist students with general reading and math skills, while helping them develop self-esteem, self-respect, and in the end, helping them to live fuller lives. Lewis and Clark's main campus is located in Godfrey, IL. Riverbend Family Ministries located in Wood River, IL, provides a facility for those individuals in need of this program who are not able to travel to the main campus. Here, each student has access to one-on-one tutoring, the internet, and a quiet pleasant place to study free from judgment or distraction. Free classes are also offered for individuals who are pursuing a GED. These courses are tailored to prepare students age 16 or older for the GED exam, improve their ability to find employment or aid in their transition into college.
